Safe Homes and Communities for Everyone

Our History

Established in 1994, Rebuilding Together Hartford, Inc. is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, volunteer organization that is dedicated to helping low-income homeowners through home renovation and repair. The local organization is part of a national Rebuilding Together effort that began in 1973 in Midland, TX. Today, there are more than 200 Rebuilding Together affiliates throughout the country.

Our City

Many Hartford resident have worked their entire lives and are able to physically and financially maintain their homes. However, as people age, things like falls, injuries, and greater health problems take their toll. As a result, society pays a price in hospitalization, elder care, and (most distressingly) in homelessness. Due to illness, the loss of a spouse, aging, and/or economic hardships, some residents are unable to repair their homes themselves leaving their buildings to deteriorate and become unsafe.

Our Neighbors

Our homeowners are identified by referrals from other nonprofit agencies, Neighborhood Revitalization Zones (NRZs), government agencies, etc. Each homeowner who puts in an application for either of our programs goes through a screening process based on their needs and income eligibility. The elderly, disabled, as well as families with children are our organization's first priority.
