Ready, Set, [Re]Build: Rebuilding Together Hartford Advances Housing Stability During National Rebuilding Day 2026

HARTFORD, CT – April 25, 2026 – Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization committed to ensuring safe, healthy, and stable housing for all, is proud to recognize National Rebuilding Day this April. Affiliates across the country, including Rebuilding Together Hartford (RTH), are mobilizing volunteers, community partners, and contractors to deliver critical home repairs that support housing stability and prevent displacement for neighbors in need.

In Hartford, Rebuilding Together Hartford will complete critical home repairs on 8 homes in the South End neighborhood as part of National Rebuilding Day, taking place on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Repairs will focus on health, safety, and accessibility improvements that allow income-qualified homeowners, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and families, to remain safely housed and avoid housing instability or homelessness.

The kickoff to National Rebuilding Day will commence on Friday, April 24th with a press conference beginning at 11:00 a.m. at 689 Franklin Avenue, Hartford, CT. Mayor Arunan Arulampalam will speak at the press conference. This home is our veteran project with donations and in-kind contributions from Home Builders & Remodelers Asso, East Haven & Ridgefield Building Supply, Andersen Windows and Rhino-Back Roofing.

“The mission of Rebuilding Together Hartford, to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of income-qualified homeowners—operates at the intersection of housing stability and homelessness prevention,” said Dawn Whalen, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Hartford. “By addressing critical health and safety repairs, we reduce housing-related risks that can lead to displacement, unsafe living conditions, or homelessness. When a homeowner tells us our program arrived at exactly the right time, it reinforces the impact of this work. National Rebuilding Day is about keeping people safely housed, preserving community ties, and ensuring that help is available before a housing crisis occurs.”

Rebuilding Together Hartford extends its sincere appreciation to more than 10 civic, corporate and community sponsors, 11 in-kind partners donating skilled labor, materials, and services, and close to 150 volunteers and community partners whose collective efforts make National Rebuilding Day possible. Their support plays a critical role in strengthening housing stability across Hartford.

As part of National Rebuilding Day activities, Rebuilding Together Hartford will also host its annual Safe & Healthy Home Resource Fair, where Safe & Healthy Home Kits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. These kits, comprised of a variety of items to keep residents safe at home, are made possible by a grant from The Hartford via the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation, including an in-kind contribution from locally owned and operated Sanford & Hawley Building Materials. The Resource Fair will take place on Sat, Apr 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Bellizzi School, located at 215 South Street, Hartford. The event is free and open to the public and will feature community partners providing information and resources related to home safety, energy efficiency, public services, and overall household well-being.
